If you took drama in grade 6, find your old portfolio to get started.
Find the correct tab for your class and put your name and portfolio link in this document. Portfolio Links
If you are NEW to drama at SAS, start here.
Your Google Slideshow will be used as an Artistic Portfolio
Like all of your performances, you should consider the audience. Imagine someone from outside our class is looking at your portfolio.
Show pride in what you post as it is a direct reflection of you.
Add photos or videos.
Think about fonts, spelling, and grammar.
Purpose of the Drama Portfolio:
To showcase your summative work.
A place to reflect on your achievements and goals.
A safe place to practice your skills of critiquing without hurting the feelings of your peers.
A place that invites discussion and seeks out the opinions of others.
Context: Context should accompany EVERY video you post. Context explains to your audience "What the heck is this video about" but context should also show that you know why we did the assignment.
Ex. In this video, we were asked to create a scene about monsters where the audience could understand our setting and relationship even though we did not use words. The goal was to show our understanding of mask skills through the assignment.
Notice: This explains what we will see and WHY!
Reflection: When you are asked to create a reflection the teacher will generally provide some questions to help you think. DO NOT just give me a question-and-answer format. I want to see you build those answers into a paragraph where you are thinking deeply about the subject. Reflections should be a place where I can see you analyze where you are as a performer and where you want to go next. Reflections can be written or recorded using Mote.
Reflection #1 Title: Why I am a (your confidence number)
Due Date:
Drama Standards:
Responding (Power Standard)
Responsibility (Learning Behavior)
NEW STUDENTS ONLY: The purpose of this assignment is for me to get to know you as a performer. Please take your time with it.
Step 1: Add a slide to your portfolio. Title the entry "Why I am a ... (this is your confidence number from the first week of drama)."
Step 2: Copy the following sentence and paste it at the top of your reflection. [Hint: command C (to copy) command V (to paste)]
TEN is a person who is dying to hit the stage on day one of drama and would willingly perform a solo at the next assembly! ONE is a person who would rather be ANYWHERE but the stage and would prefer to be wrapped up in a blanket back in their bed hugging their teddy bear. On this scale of one to ten, I would be a ... because...
Step 3: Add your number and explain why you think that number was appropriate for you on day 1 of drama.
This is your chance to tell me a bit about you and your experience and/or relationship with the stage.
Why do you think you are confident or not confident performing on stage?
Do you have any experience with the stage already? This could include performing as a dancer or musician.
What are you hoping to get out of drama class this trimester?
What do you want me to know about you as a performer and how can I best encourage you to take a dramatic risk?
Is there anything else you want me to know about you? This can be personal or academic (optional)
Step 4: In the stream, I shared a drive folder where you will find the photo of you posing with your laptop and number.
Find your photo
Download it to your desktop.
Drag it onto your portfolio slide.
You can even frame it to make it look nicer by clicking on it and selecting a border.
When you are finished, make sure your slide looks nice. Make sure the font is easy to read. Check your spelling. Remember your portfolio is an extension of you! (Bonus: Feel free to add photos/videos of your doing drama previously. In drama you are welcome to show off!)
DO NOT LINK YOUR PORTFOLIO TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM. If you do, you will lose access.
Instead, just click Done on Google Classroom.
RETURNING STUDENTS
Step 1: Add the title and include your current confidence number to the title.
Step 2: Paragraph 1: If you can, take a look back at your confidence number at the beginning of drama in 6th grade. How did you feel after the final performance? More confident or less. When you think about performing now, how do you feel now?
(This should be a paragraph as you reflect on confidence and in particular how you feel about performing then and now.)
Sample: I arrived in grade 6 as a 9.9999. I was so excited to be in drama. Performing for all of 5th grade was actually way more terrifying than I thought. I saw my teachers watching me and I know my voice got quieter than when I practiced. But after performing I was a ten. The adrenaline was amazing. I ran home and told my parents I want to be in next year's MS production. However, now as a 7th grader I'm finding that I care more and more what my peers think. The idea of doing improv with no script is actually scarier to me. I think I'm starting this year as a 7.
Step 3: Reflect: Paragraph 2
How can I help you improve your confidence and feel safe enough to take bigger risks?
Is there anything else you would like me to know about you? This can be about you personally or academically. (Optional) For example, My brother went off to university and I'm really missing him and hate having all my parent's attention on me. OR I really hate doing written reflections but would be fine using Mote to capture my thoughts.
Reminder: Don't attach your portfolio to Google Classroom or you'll lose access. Just click done.
Reflection #2: Collaborative Movement Performance.
Drama Standards:
Responding (Power Standard)
Responsibility (Learning Behavior)
Step 1: Go to your class's Google Drive folder and find both your rough and your polished videos.
Step 2: In your portfolio, add a slide, and title it "Collaborative Movement Performance."
Step 3: Embed both videos into your portfolio. (How to embed a video. You must have at least started watching the videos. Then you go to insert, drive, and recent, and your video will be there. Click and then re-size and put your rough and then your polished side by side.
Step 4: Label the videos. Rough and Polished.
Step 5: WATCH both videos by yourself.
Step 6: Discuss with your group:
The rough video very much looks like a class exercise, but the polished one has the feel of a performance. What theatrical elements make it feel like a performance? You should be able to find at least 5 things!
How would you rate your group's ability to collaborate? What could you do differently next time to make sure everyone feels included?
What are you most proud of when you watched your video?
What would you do next, if you had a chance to perform again?
Step 7: Add context.... in a few sentences explain the assignment and the purpose.
Step 8: Reflect on the questions above. DO NOT DO THIS QUESTION AND ANSWER FORMAT. Build the questions into your answers.
Step 9: Edit and make sure it looks nice. It's okay to take 2 slides.
Step 10: In Google Classroom, mark the assignment as DONE. Do NOT attach your portfolio to the assignment.
